Logitech MX Master 3S vs Apple Magic Mouse:
Best Mouse for Mac?

By Ryan Cook · May 2026 · ~8 min read

⚡ Quick Verdict

The MX Master 3S is the better mouse for productivity and ergonomics. The Magic Mouse is the better choice only if you specifically want Multi-Touch gestures on a mouse and are committed to Apple's design language.

MX Master 3S Wins If...

You use a mouse for more than an hour a day. The ergonomic shape, MagSpeed scroll wheel, and programmable buttons make it significantly more comfortable and efficient for real work.

Magic Mouse Wins If...

You want Multi-Touch gesture support directly on the mouse surface — swipe between pages, scroll with inertia, and navigate macOS spaces with finger gestures. No other mouse does this.

Ergonomics — The Defining Difference

💪 Winner: MX Master 3S — and it's not close

The Logitech MX Master 3S has a sculpted, contoured shape designed for a right-hand grip. Your palm rests naturally on the rear hump, your fingers curl around the sides, and your thumb rests on a dedicated side button without any awkward stretching. After a full day of use, your hand simply doesn't feel strained.

The Apple Magic Mouse is almost comically flat for a mouse. It's a design triumph and a usability compromise. The low profile means your hand hovers with fingers extended rather than curled comfortably. For short sessions this is fine. For people who use a mouse for 4–8 hours a day, the Magic Mouse is a frequent source of wrist and hand fatigue complaints.

If you've ever ended a workday with hand fatigue or wrist soreness attributed to your mouse, there's an overwhelming probability the MX Master 3S will solve it.

⚠️ The Charging Problem

The Magic Mouse cannot be used while charging. Its Lightning port is on the bottom of the device, so the entire mouse is unusable during the 2 minutes of charging required to get through a full day. This is a well-known design flaw that Apple has never addressed.

Scrolling & Precision

📚 Winner: MX Master 3S

The MX Master 3S features Logitech's MagSpeed electromagnetic scroll wheel, which shifts between a ratcheted click-by-click mode for precise scrolling and a free-spinning mode that can scroll through 1,000 lines in a second. The transition between modes is automatic based on how fast you scroll, and it's genuinely one of the best scroll wheel experiences ever put in a mouse.

The Magic Mouse scrolls using finger swipes on its touch surface. This works well and has natural inertia that mimics the trackpad experience. But it lacks the precision and the satisfying physicality of a scroll wheel for tasks like navigating long documents, coding, or spreadsheet work.

Gestures & macOS Integration

👈 Winner: Magic Mouse (if you want gestures)

The Magic Mouse's Multi-Touch surface supports swipe gestures for navigating between pages in Safari, swiping between macOS Spaces, and two-finger scrolling with inertia. For users who love macOS's gesture-driven navigation and want to replicate the trackpad experience with a mouse, nothing else comes close.

The MX Master 3S can be programmed with Logi Options+ to trigger specific macOS functions via its seven buttons and gesture button. It's not gesture-based in the same intuitive way, but the programmable buttons can replicate many workflows effectively.

Charging & Battery

🔋 Winner: MX Master 3S

The MX Master 3S charges via USB-C on the front of the mouse and can be used while charging. A full charge lasts approximately 70 days. One minute of charging gives three hours of use. The entire charging experience is thoughtfully designed.

The Magic Mouse charges via the Lightning port on its bottom. You cannot use it while charging — the mouse must be flipped upside down and set aside. A full charge takes about two hours and lasts approximately one month.
